Runner Girl

I had it all wrong

My passion hidden beneath a thick layer of mist

I hit the pavement out of punishment

I tied my sneakers out of fear

One run done and I’d obsess over the next one

But it didn’t start like this

And it won’t end like this

Prior to this fall

I realized I had been running for the wrong reasons

In two weeks I will run my first ever half marathon

Not for the physique

But because it feels so fucking amazing

To head out the door and set out on an adventure through the autumn leaves

Without naseua, without pain, without punishment

I can run four, five, six miles and feel like I’m truly flying

Untouchable, unstoppable, unwavering

The Runner Girl
